The summit from camp VI

This bench marks the highest point, the true summit of Kingsthorpe cemetery.

DSC_0295.resizedMy route this morning was the so called South Gate Direct route straight up from Holly Lodge Drive, taking the hedge track variant to ascend the final section before the summit slope itself.

I didn’t need any fixed ropes, and I did it without supplementary oxygen. I also had no help from sherpas, although my small grey terrier did tug on the lead whenever he felt I was going too slowly.

The view from up there is all right, I suppose. There are rather a lot of trees and houses in the way, so it’s less than stunning.

Actually, having said it’s the highest point, I wonder if the new section is actually higher. It slopes steadily upwards towards the gardens of the houses on Ash Rise. But who would want to go all that way?
